So what makes a song from this era important? I could argue that all songs are sublime compositions or that the videos are ground breaking, but it wouldn't be true. Closer to the truth would be: "because I think so".

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Year: 1982



No 80's list can ignore Michael Jackson. Neither can I. Thriller was the first video that broke the all-videos-should-be-about-2:35-long-rule. I remember that the video itself was pre-announced with descriptions like "It's not just a video; it's a short film" and "The most expensive production for years to come". Most of it was probably correct. A truly amazing production at the time.
